Reviewing, Actioning, and Completing Tasks

In order to meet the requirements of a control, and comply with your chosen compliance standards, you will need to complete any Technical or Operational tasks that are associated with it. Let's look at an example Technical task:

Example outstanding technical control

As shown above, there is a technical task called "Disable 'Insecure guest logons' in Sever Message Block (SMB)." Looking across, we can see that it relates to Microsoft 365. By clicking Review we can open a side window for this task.

Reviewing Tasks

Here's an example of one of these tasks.

Reviewing control task example

Let's go over each of these section within this example task:

Icon & Title: As mentioned before, the icon indicates which tenancy the task will impact (e.g M365), while the task title will give a general overview of the task as a whole.

Control and Standard Tags: The boxes underneath the task title indicate which cyber security standard the task is related to, whilst also showing which controls the task is linked to, or whether the task covers multiple standards.

Unique Identifier: Each task has a unique identifier. This has no impact on your day-to-day use of the platform, and simply exists as an easy way for our team to troubleshoot that specific task within your tenancy, should it be required.

Associated Automation: Similar to the Unique Identifier, the Associated Automation is a way for a member of our team to easily locate the automation that is linked to that particular task for troubleshooting and triage purposes.

Target Name: As outlined previously, Target Name refers to the area of your tenancy that will be altered by that automation. The name will be different for each business, depending on what you have named your various systems within the platform.

Status: Your task will show various labels based on its current completion state. Labels such as In Progress and **Completed **will help you easily identify whether a task has been actioned or not.

License Required: This refers to the specific licences that are required to make these changes within the platform.

Task Details and Manual Steps: This section outlines what the automation will implement, as well as the manual steps that users can take if they wish to make these changes by hand. Some tasks may include an 'Impact' area, which will explain any changes that users within your organisation may face (e.g. forcing a password change, or enabling MFA).

Unless you have a specific reason to complete a task manually, we recommend completing all outstanding tasks using the 'Fix this for me' automated approach. Completing tasks manually risks incorrect configuration, increasing the likelihood of your business being non-compliant

Created: A time stamp for when a task was created.

Completing Technical Tasks

At the bottom of the task details page there will be several options. These are:

Fix this for me

The Fix this for me button is one of the most important buttons on the platform. Pressing this will enable the platform's automations to change the required settings within your tenancy, setting them to be in-line with that control. This automation is then reflected within the Audit Logs, indicating who authorised the automation, when it was conducted, and what area of your tenancy was affected.

Outscope

Selecting Outscope will tell the OneClickComply platform that that task is not applicable to your organisation, removing it from any future compliance scans, and from impacting your overall alignment percentage.

In order to outscope a task, you will need to provide an explanation for outscoping, and to confirm that the information you provided is correct. This is so that auditors can understand why you believe the task does not apply to you, and validate your answer.

Assign Task

Selecting Assign Task will allow you to assign the task to another user within your organisation who has an account on the OneClickComply platform. You simply need to provide the email address of the user, the due date for the task to be completed by, the priority of the task, and any other details that may be relevant.

You can view all assigned tasks, and tasks that have been assigned to you, within the My Tasks area of the platform.

Completing Technical Tasks for Cloud Platforms

Any technical tasks that are linked to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Google Cloud, have a slightly different completion method. Once users click 'Fix this for me', a new window will open containing a CLI command that they can copy and paste into the console or terminal of the associated cloud platform. See below for an example:

Example cloud remediation

This approach allows for consistent results across all cloud platforms for all users, regardless of setup or complexity. Once completed, users can click the Mark as Complete option to set the task status as 'Complete.'

Completing Operational Tasks

As operational tasks are more administrative, there will not be a 'Fix this for me' option available. Instead, you will be able to select Upload Evidence, Mark as Complete, Outscope, or Assign Task.

Upload Evidence

As the name suggests, the Upload Evidence option allows you to attach documentation to the task to meet its requirements.

Mark as Complete

Selecting this option will mark the task as being complete. This should only be selected once you are sure you have fulfilled the requirements of the task.
