Understanding Outstanding Tasks
What are Outstanding Tasks?
When the OneClickComply platforms scans your integrations (such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or AWS), it cross-references your current settings, policies, and controls against the security requirements of standards and frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, SOC 2, and ISO 27001. Any discrepancy between your security, and those outlined in the standard, such as an incorrect setting, or missing policy, are detected, flagged, and marked as 'Outstanding.' These 'Outstanding' issues are then collated into a to-do list, which can be accessed in the Outstanding Tasks area.
What do I do with them?
The existence of an Outstanding Task represents a potential gap, flaw, or weakness in your organisation's security posture. The OneClickComply platform offers multiple avenues for managing these tasks; you can automatically fix the issues using our 'Fix this for me approach', you can mark them as 'manual' if you would prefer to fix the problem by hand, or you can 'outscope' the task if you have reason to believe that it is not relevant to your organisation and its compliance efforts.
What does completing a task do?
As each Outstanding Task does something different, such as changing certain settings or adjusting policies, it's difficult to give a singular answer to this question. Broadly speaking however, completing an Outstanding Task improves the overall security and compliance of your organisation, bringing you into alignment with the requirements laid out by various standards and frameworks.
How will they impact my business?
This is another difficult question to give a single answer to. The impact to your organisation will depend on your multiple factors, such as the environment the task relates to, your current security approach, and the type of changes being made. For example, if your organisation was not enforcing multi-factor authentication (MFA), completing an Outstanding Task that enables this setting would require all users to use MFA going forward. For a business that already had this in place, the platform would detect this configuration and mark it as complete.
